SEO link building is now one of the most done activity in any business/blog. The simple logic here is the back-link’s give you a higher PR (Page Rank) and PR makes you rank high in SERPS (Search Engine Results Page). After all a higher ranking will definitely gives you a hight traffic that implies more money.

Back-links really gives you 90% of your Google Rank and this is the reason that gave this much importance to it in business/blogging. Most of the people misunderstand it. Beginner’s should first know that not all back-links are good but some can actually hurt you than help you.

SEO Link-building is all about building links that are natural. Google did not design their ranking system to be manipulated. It was designed to reward good sites that get linked to it naturally. That’s why getting the right links can be incredibly difficult if you try and do it manually.

Unfortunately, you have to build in links these days otherwise you will not be competitive. If you sit around and wait for sites to link to you, you might wait forever. The good thing is that this also gives the “small guy” a fair shake to get good rankings in Google, Yahoo and M.S.N.

1:Mass Link Packages

Now a days people are selling Mass Link Packages which are not really worth a mention but drags you as the title says “PR7 in 30 days“. Mostly the site’s in this packages will be of the networks that don’t have traffic and have irrelevant information.

2: Link Exchanges

Back in the day, exchanging links was the main SEO link-building strategy. You link to me, I link to you and we both win. Right? Wrong! Google caught on to this when hundreds of link farms opened up. Google can easily trace reciprocal links and they simply don’t count for much anymore. Getting links from big link exchange networks can actually hurt your business.

3: Linking From Non-Indexed Sites

Most people who spend hours building those free Back-links make the mistake of building links on non-indexed sites. For your back links to count, the page on which you have your link has to be indexed. Having links on non-indexed pages means nothing. It’s a waste of time and some really shocking thing is some people sell those lists in forums.

4: Not Using Anchor Text

At first this probably won’t sound too scary, but if you build 2,000 links without relevant anchor text your site can easily pass for a spam site that just gets random links. By using anchor text that is related to your site, it gives your links link-juice; meaning it makes your links relevant and increases the perceived value of each link. And this effects your website traffic because a SPAM site will be banned up to 5 years which affects your traffic.

5: Inorganic links

As I mentioned earlier, Google designed the page rank system to work organically which means it should be built naturally. If you go and get 1000 links overnight from the same site then Google’s alarms will go off and you might land yourself in some Back-linking trouble with Google which may even BAN you.

How to Sign-up for Office Web Apps

1. Create a new Windows Live ID (Sign Up link) if you don’t have one or if you use a country other than US as this requires you to be from US.
2. When you are signing up, make sure you select “US” for the Country field else you are not allowed to use this program. You can use NY for State field and 10001 for the ZIP code
3. Once your Live ID is setup, just click here, accept the license agreement and see the magic, the Office Web Apps Technical Preview will be activated for your Live ID.IF you don’t understand this step Go to Step 5.
4. If you fail with Step 3 then see this else you can continue. Go to SkyDrive, upload any dummy Word file like me to the Documents folder and you will see an invite to join the Office Web Apps programs.



5. After clicking that link, accept the license by clicking “Accept“. A new menu entry will be displayed in the header called New. Now click on it to open a new submenu with options to create a new Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, Microsoft Word document, Microsoft Excel workbook or Microsoft OneNote notebook.



6. Now enjoy your Microsoft Office WebApps.

Incorrect Hyper-linking

The most seen mistake which annoys the visitors is incorrect URL linking. I will show your the best example for it.

Here If I keep my cursor on GoDaddy it shows me that the URL is “http://www.devilsworkshop.org/some-tips-to-follow-before-buying-a-domain-name/www.godaddy.com“. This really annoys the user. Its a very common mistake and have seen this even with one of the most famous blogs like ProBlogger.

This mistake is because while hyper-linking, he didn’t put the “http://” before “www.godaddy.com”. So the web-browser thinks that www.godaddy.com is a directory in DevilsWorkshop.

Spelling Mistake’s

This is the most common mistake seen in a blog. This is caused mainly if the blogger doesn’t check the spelling mistakes after he completes writing his article. This affects your readers. And mainly affects your non-English readers because if they want to translate your blog into their language. They use some Translators like Google Translator, Yahoo BabelFish etc. If that article consists of spelling mistakes, the Translator will not be able to translate the article. So, it affects the reading and also the non-English readers. So it annoys them.

Irrelevant Advertisements

We are now seeing the kind of advertisements even in Tech Blogs which are not at all related to the content and also some of them are CPA offers. This really affects the traffic of the particular site.

This is mainly due to adding/using irrelevant keywords in the meta tags and also keyword stuffing. Mainly bloggers do this because if they use keywords like lung cancer, CPA etc., their websites will be displayed with the advertisements which pay a lot as compared to other advertisements.

So, I have got a quick solution for you and that is called Cufon. It makes possible fast and easy replacement of text with the font of your wish. It is very easy to set up and supports nearly all major browsers. And also it is SEO friendly.

How to use Cufon

To use Cufon is so easy.

First download the JavaScript file (http://cufon.shoqolate.com/js/cufon-yui.js) and generate your own font’s unique JavaScript file here (http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/).

Once you have the both JavaScript file, upload them to your webhost and include it in the head section of your web page like this :

< script type="text/javascript" src=" path/to/font.js" >< /script >


Don’t forget to change to “path/to” according to your needs.That means the path to the cufon-yui.js and font.js file

Now we are all set up to replace your text , to replace the text with cufon , add the following piece of javascript to your page :

The above lines of code will replace all your h3 elements with images rendered by Cufon with the font given by you.

Rendering your text (Styling)

You can also add linear gradients to your text with cufon. Here is a sample code

This is the worst thing that can happen to your website, especially if you are running a business or a blog through your site.

How can I find out if my site is banned by Google?

To know this, use this code:

site: www.yoursite.com

(replace www.yoursite.com with the domain name of the site you think may be banned)

And, if you see no results on your site then maybe, it is banned by Google, or the robots.txt file is bad, or you haven’t submitted your site to Google.

See that your Robots.txt file doesn’t contain the code below:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Don’t use “Disallow: /” just replace “/” with the directory (Eg: “Disallow: /Personal” ) you want Google to not index.
If you follow this, your site will be again listed in Google, if not, it may be banned.

Here is a list of ways by which you can keep your website in Google’s good books:

• Up-time: Make sure you have the best up-time possible for your website. This means you must have reliable web hosting. If Google visits your website and it is not up, you may risk Google banning your site.
• Spam: It is the thing which no search engine loves. So don’t use spamming techniques to promote your website. This will almost definitely lead to condemnation of your website for at least 6 months. Never use “black hat” methods like doorways, hidden text or cloaking. You are only setting yourself up for disaster.
• Plagiarism: Make sure your content is original and relevant. Websites that duplicate content are punished with lower rankings and even bans. Your content should always be made for human consumption and relate to your website’s theme.
• Linking: Linking is a two way street. Not only should the links going out of your website be quality, but be certain that the links that lead to your website are from Google respected locations as well. Avoid link farms and any paid linking service. Also, excessive linking is a red flag for Google. When you add internal links on your own sites, make sure you do it in moderation and with purposeful intent.
• Cleanliness: Be sure your site is Google friendly. Build your website so that Google is able to index every page. Include a sitemap. Be sure all your pages are working and that there are no broken links.

Don’t try to fool Google with tricky tactics. The price you will pay is far worse than the effort it takes to do things the right way!

Optimizing a website for printing means removing the extra stuff like logos, forms, navigation links, advertising, blog rolls, flash widgets, etc from the website while printing and give a clean preview of your website.

We can do this with the help of CSS. In CSS itself we have many ways but the most easy way is to use <link> element and add specify print as value for media attribute.

<link rel="stylesheet" href="filename.css" media="print" />

In the above example, we declared that stylesheet “filename.css” should be used whenever media is print. Thus it will be used while printing the document only. These styles will have no effect on the display of the document when viewed using a monitor,  handheld or any other non-printing device.

We have CSS files for 10 different kinds of media like…

1. all
2. aural
3. braille
4. embossed
5. handheld
6. print
7. projection
8. screen
9. tty
10. tv

For Optimizing your website paste the code below in between <head> tag.

Note: You can change the filename.css to any file name you wish but don’t change the extension.

Now you have to code the CSS part. If you know CSS well you can code it yourself if you don’t just copy-paste this code.

Note: Change navigation to your own id I mean which is used in site.

Usage:

1. Users can save ink in their printers as many useless elements won’t get printed anymore.

These are very common mistakes and everyone should avoid them. Hope you people like it.

1. Navigation

Now a days the webmasters are showing much interest in SEO (Search Engine Optimization). They  focus on optimizing thier websites for spiders like Google, Yahoo, etc. and forgot that humans also crawl their site. This focus often result in bad navigation system for their website.

2. Repeated Newsletters

Now a days what I am observing is the webmasters are flooding their visitors with a lot of newsletters. I mean to say 3 or more newsletters a day. It leads the visitors of your site to unsubscribe to your feed or newsletter. Ideally, even for a highly active blog/website, newsletters should be delivered not more than once a day.

3. Embed videos that start without playing the PLAY button

These option is called as auto play. We know most of the visitors have limited bandwidth. Additional video data you force your visitors to download gets directly transformed into anger they feel toward your site/blog. They most probably close your website rather than searching for a pause button.

4. Pop up message like “Subscribe us” or “Special offers”

This is the mistake made by new webmasters. These webmasters shower the visitors with pop ups. Whenever they see some new scripts on Internet, they use it in their websites. It irritates your users and also increases loading time of your site.

5. Show them big, uncompressed photos

Many webmasters show compressed photos on websites because it decreases the loading time as well as load on webserver. But some new bloggers often using MS-paint saves and upload photos in BMP format. Sometimes these uncompressed files are 10 time larger than their compressed JPG/PNG counterpart.

6. Changing the theme of your site every fortnight

With free WordPress themes and Blogger layout availble in abundance, resist the temptation of changing your theme regularly. If you want a new look do some minor changes in the theme but don’t change it completely every week or fortnight.

7. Not responding to comments

If you don’t have time to post timely replies to your visitors my suggestion is to better remove comments sections from your website. A repeat visitor will probably go away from your site if his comment remain unanswered after 24-48 hours.

8. Cluttered slow loading sites

Does your site load in 3-5 seconds? Otherwise remove all the useless widgets and change your theme to a normal one. Also remove the useless flash and javascripts from your website/blog.
