Facebook’s new ‘Poke Suggestions’ or ‘Poke Flooder’?

Facebook just added a new feature where it started showing “poke suggestions” on the sidebar of Facebook poke page. Poke suggestions is a list of random friends on Facebook whom you can poke. Well this is just an initiative by Facebook to increase interaction between users as people are now losing interest in keeping a touch with each other by sending messages or writing on friend’s wall.

But ‘Poke Suggestions’ seems more like a ‘Poke Flooder’, all I can see are useless poke notifications. And when you will poke someone back, all you get is another poke in return from them.

Well I don’t think this is going be a very successful thing and Facebook should start working on other features rather than introducing such features or new designs. They should spend more time in making Facebook technically better and increasing user privacy. So what do you this about this feature of Facebook?

Unfriend someone directly from your newsfeed on Facebook [How-to]

If you have so many friends on Facebook, then you must be annoyed like me due to useless and irrelevant updates in your News Feed or Homepage. Obviously you can unsubscribe from anyone like we told you earlier, but the thing is that what’s the use of keeping someone in your friend’s list if you don’t want to read their updates and what they are upto.

I don’t know why, but the world’s most popular social networking website Facebook loves people to unfriend each other. That’s why there are so many ways to unfriend a friend. Facebook also blocked people from adding strangers for user privacy.

How to Unfriend someone directly from your newsfeed on Facebook?

1. To unfriend, click on the arrow given on the right side with each update and then click “Unsubscribe from”. After that you will see a direct link of unfriend. Click on that link to delete your friend. Check out the screenshot below.

2. Another way is to roll over your mouse on your friend’s profile name or picture on your homepage and keep it there for a couple of seconds, then you will see profile badge of that profile, roll over the mouse again to the place where “Friends” is written and then click “Unfriend”.

iPad 2 vs the New iPad; which one is a better option for you

Finally the ~~iPad 3~~ new iPad is in the market and once again we can see long queues outside apple stores in ten countries where Apple launched its new iPad. But as the changes are minor in this 3rd generation iPad, the crowd outside Apple Stores isn’t crazy like it was for iPad 2. Some people are happy with their iPad 2 and they are not planning to upgrade it while some already sold out their iPad 2 and got this one cuz the display of the new iPad is much better than older iPads. But which one is suitable for you, iPad 2 or the new iPad? Let’s have a look at both of them.

iPad 2:

Apple discontinued 32Gb and 64Gb versions of iPad 2 so only 16Gb model is available in the market now with a lower price than the new iPad. In United States you can get the iPad 2 Wifi only model for $399 (Rs.25000 in India) and Wifi+3G for $529 (Rs. 32500 in India) which is definitely a value for money deal. iPad 2 is itself a technically very advanced device with good processor, User Interface, Battery Life, Screen e.t.c and awesome for Applications.

If you work online and you need a tablet to access internet anytime and anywhere you want, with loads of additional features too then this is definitely a good option for you. iPad 2 still complete your basic needs of a tablet. iPad users don’t have the latest technology in hand but this tablet is still very powerful and with the slashed prices this is a good option for you.

The New iPad:

The new iPad is seriously a revolutionary device, the new Retina display is unbelievable and it’s the highest resolution screen on any mobile device till date. The processor is upgraded with A5X chip and there a Quadcore graphic processor as well. Camera quality is much better than iPad 2 with 5Mp iSight camera. Also this iPad is 4G compatible but this feature isn’t useful for Indian users as we are still testing our 3G connection . The new iPad is $100 expensive than the iPad 2.

I must say that if you are planning to buy an iPad and you can spend $100 extra then you should definitely buy the new iPad. You get many new features and apps in new iPad and this device is way more advanced than any other tablet in the market. You are definitely going to enjoy your experience with this tablet.

Show your status offline to some friends in Facebook Chat [New]

Facebook keeps on changing the interface of Facebook chat and they did it again and added an old feature again, that is to show your status offline to some friends and online to some. Now you also have an option of showing your status offline to one friend or a group of people using Facebook lists. Let’s see how you can do it.

Showing your status offline to some friends:

To show your status offline to some friends or a single person, open his/her chatbox and click on the gear at the top of that chatbox. After that click second option i.e ‘Go Offline to’. See the picture below,

Showing your status offline to a group of friends:

For this you first have to make a list of friends whom you don’t want to chat with. Click here to know more about lists. You can also add people to restricted lists and hide yourself and your private content on Facebook. After that click on the gear at the bottom right of the page and select ‘Advanced Settings’. Then add the name of that list and click ‘Save’. See the pic below,

How to get old Facebook photo viewer;disabling theater effect

Most of the people don’t like the new features of Facebook like profile design, ticker, questions, timeline profiles, news feed e.t.c. Personally I think these features are okay and not that much annoying as it used to be. But the only feature that I still don’t like is the theater effects of Facebook’s photo viewer. The older method was better when the photos used to get opened in a new page rather than showing it on the same page. Moreover theater effect also decreases the quality of the picture. But there’s a simple way of disabling this on chrome, firefox or even you can disable it temporarily on any browser, let’s see how you can do it.

For Google Chrome:

If you are using Facebook on Google Chrome then the simplest way to disable Theater effect is to install Revert FB Photo Viewer extension. This will give you back your old photo viewer on Chrome.

For Mozilla Firefox:

For firefox you can use facebook Photo Theater Killer userscript. Before installing this to your Firefox make sure you have Greasemonkey add-on installed. You can also use it on Chrome with Tampermonkey extension.

Temporarily disabling theater effect (any browser):

Method 1: Open a photo on Facebook. To view it normally without Theater effect just hit F5 key or refresh the page. You will see pics in classic Facebook photo viewer.

Method 2: Open a photo and check its link in the address bar. For example:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2944361161780&set=a.1207721306869.2032105.1043785484&type=3&theater

Now remove the &type=3&theater part from the end and hit enter. It will temporarily disable the theater effect for that album.

You can now officially Hide Ticker from Facebook homepage

Facebook just did a small change in the homepage and added a very useful button there. It’s the “Hide Ticker” button added on the top of the ticker in your sidebar. After the launch of new design the one thing that was annoying the users most is the ticker updates. Though it’s a good way to see updates in real-time but still most of the Facebook users didn’t like it so Facebook officially added an option of hiding the Ticker. Let’s see how you can do it.

Officially hiding ticker from your sidebar:

To hide ticker from your sidebar click on the ‘Hide Ticker’ button. Can’t locate it? Just check out the screenshot below:

Now you don’t need to use unofficial extensions to hide it, simply click a link and it will disappear. Please note that you cannot hide the ticker when chat on sidebar is open.

20,000 followers for Official Twitter account of Prime Minister’s Office in 2 days

In just a couple of days after the announcement of Official Account of Indian Prime Minister’s Office, more than 20,000 Twitter users have started following it. Just like the official page of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Facebook, this twitter account will also give regular updates of Prime Minister’s speeches, programs, photos, tours and other official news in real-time. This official account of PMO will be managed and updated by TV journalist Pankaj Pachauri who’s newly appointed Communications Adviser to the Prime Minister.

You can follow official PMO twitter account @PMOIndia. At the moment it’s just having 6 tweets and 4 photos with more than 20,000 followers which shows how popular this account is and that too within a couple of days. It seems like everyone was waiting for him on Twitter.

Let’s see how beneficial it will be for the media and for a normal person. You can check the current PMO updates on Facebook on this official page. What do you think about politicians joining social networking websites to interact with people? Is it of any use or not?

Galaxy Note is a new Phone (or a Tablet may be) by Samsung which is gaining lot of popularity in the gadget world and the main reason behind it is the design of this phone cum tablet. With 5.3″ display screen you can even do your tablet PC or netbook work on this huge phone. But the question is whether you should buy Samsung Galaxy Note or not? Well we have the answer for you.

Why you should buy Galaxy Note?

Buy it if you can’t afford a Smartphone and a Tablet separately.
If you like to buy a handy Tablet which you can carry in your pocket as well.
If you always have to stay connected to internet for your work or business (I’m not talking about Facebook and Twitter )
If you like bulky and flashy gadgets and if you like showing off your gadgets. No one is going to notice an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S-II in your hand and one can’t ignore such a huge phone like this one.
If you are a teenager.
If you love android and it’s applications.
If you don’t care about the market after buying a gadget. Samsung will definitely cut its prices and will launch a new phone in this segment soon just like Samsung Galaxy S series. They launched S and S-II and now S-III on its way.
If you like using a Stylus. This thing hardly matters as you can still use your fingers on Galaxy Note.

Why you shouldn’t buy Galaxy Note?

Don’t buy it if you want a stable device that you can use for next 2-3 years.
If you don’t like bulky phones, this device looks weird in a pocket of a trouser.
If you’re already using a tablet or you’re planning to buy one.
If you are buying a phone just to get cool application. In that case go for an Apple device.
If you are expecting a high resale value of your phone.
If you hate Andriod and just impressed by the looks of this phone.
If you are not good in handling delicate stuff. The only delicate part of this phone is the screen. Google is full of queries like ”Galaxy Note cracked screen”.
Last but not the least, if you’re an Apple iPhone lover then don’t buy it. In that case either wait for iPhone 5 (expected in June 2012) or buy an iPhone 4S or even iPhone 4; that will give you more happiness.

Verdict:

Well I can just give you suggestion, the final decision is still yours. Galaxy Note is technically a very good phone. The good feature of this phone is its display and its a bad feature too.

According to me if you are planning to buy a smartphone then go for something else like Samsung S-II or Apple iPhone. And if you’re looking for a Tablet PC then go with Apple iPad. Don’t mix up a phone and a tablet as both are different things with different usage.

Ignore All Future Event/Application Invites From a Friend on Facebook

Facebook is an interesting social-networking website but what makes it annoying is the useless notifications you get everyday about games and applications and some event requests. Earlier we told you a way of blocking a particular application so that you won’t get any request related to that application from any of your friends. But what if you still want to receive requests but not from a particular friend, well here’s the solution for you.

Blocking requests from a particular friend for an application:

For this go to your Apps and Games page from the sidebar of your Facebook homepage. Alternatively you can click the link below.

https://www.facebook.com/games

After that reject any request from a friend by clicking ‘Cross’ sign given with the accept button. Now to reject all the future requests from that friend click on “Ignore all requests from *friends name*?” on the same page as shown below.

Blocking requests from a particular friend for an event:

If you are getting so many event invitations than it’s a good idea to block those invites rather than removing that person from your friends list. To ignore all event invites go to your events page. Now first of all decline an event request and then click on the button given with the text ‘You Declined’. See the pic below.

After that click confirm to stop receiving future invites from that particular friend. That’s it, now you will stop getting useless invites and notifications.

Detect any ID who’s invisible/online on Yahoo Messenger [How-To]

We have tools like Buddy Spy to detect who’s online and invisible on Yahoo Messenger. Buddy Spy is a good software but with lots of limitation but don’t worry we have something for you where you can detect even those users who are not in your contact list. This method is very useful when you are chatting in Yahoo rooms where everybody appears offline. Let’s see how you can detect any Yahoo ID whether it’s online, offline or invisible?

How to Check?

To check for any Yahoo ID, go to the website www.spydetect.net and enter the Yahoo ID in the box given there. After that click ‘Check’ and it will tell you whether that Yahoo ID user is online, offline or online but invisible. Also there’s no need to add the user in your friend’s list too. Just check status for any valid Yahoo ID.

What else you can do with it?

spydetect.net also allows you to add a user on Yahoo directly from the website, send him/her a text or voice message. You can also find the person on Facebook or Hi5 with his/her Yahoo ID and spydetect. For all these options check out the link:

Here replace YID with the original Yahoo ID of the person and hit enter. After that click on any option as shown below.

Find on Facebook feature is really good. Using this you can find people on Facebook directly from Yahoo Chat rooms.
