To keep yourself protected it is necessary to keep your PC protected first, check out few points below:

1. Before logging into a Yahoo chat room make sure that you have a good and updated Anti-Virus installed on your PC. You can also download a freeware if you don’t want to spend on a new, full version anti-virus.
2. Avoid using your real name, location or any other personal data in your account. Even if you’re using it make sure that it’s not visible to everyone else.
3. Never click on any link sent by other users. These links are generally in the format ‘Click here to see me http://….’. For your information these kinds of links are not sent by a beautiful girl, rather these are just automatically generated messages by a robot.
4. Never accept a webcam request, spammers send these request to create a direct IP address path so that they can transfer Virus or Malware to your PC or access your PC’s data.
5. Never share your data like phone number, location, and family or bank account details to anonymous users in IM. Also don’t ever go and meet someone you don’t know personally. Never trust anyone after chatting for just few hours
6. Don’t let minors use Yahoo or any other messenger services. Keep it blocked on your PC so that they can’t access it when you are not there.

Don’t forget to share it with your friends to keep them protected too.

Many of the universities these days have a .edu domain (although, Indian universities rarely have that domain), stanford.edu for example. So, if your university has a .edu domain, they will certainly provide you a email address too, and that’s the proof that you’re a student.

So what are those other two passwords, apart from the one you know?

1. Your actual Facebook password with case reversed.
2. Your actual Facebook password with first letter capitalized, this is only available for mobile devices, though.

For example, if your password is “fAcEbOoK’, then “FaCeBoOk” (case reversed) serves as an alternative password.

This also means that if your password is completely in lower case, then you can login to your Facebook account even with Caps Lock on.

If you’re logging into Facebook from a mobile, then if the first letter gets capitalized by mistake, still you can login with no problem.

This is not a bug in Facebook, they intentionally designed in this way. This is not even a security loophole as it’s the same password, what has changed is just the capitalization, so it will take the same number of brute force attacks to crack it.

The actual thing is that these numbers are not visible to everyone or even your frineds on Facebook. These numbers are only visible to you and are used for ease of access so that you can directly call a facebook friend from your phone just by clicking it. To enhance this thing Facebook also launched a new feature i.e “Request your Friend’s phone number” which’s available on platform’s like Facebook for BlackBerry and iPhone.

Since from the beginning, Facebook is very much concerned about it’s user privacy and they have a good privacy policy. They can’t even think of making all the contacts visible to everyone on Facebook so just Chill and enjoy Facebooking!

How to access your Facebook’s contact list?

To access your Facebook contact list open your Facebook homepage from your PC browser. Now click “Account” on the top right of the page and select “Edit Friends” from the drop down list.

Now on the left sidebar, third option will be “Contacts”. Click on that to access your Facebook phonebook and see your Facebook friend’s contact information.

Yesterday I got an invitation of this iPhone event and then one after another my friends started inviting me and it spread like a fire. But nobody thought that why they will give a free iPhone to a million Facebook users? The answer is that they are not giving it to anyone, they are just increasing fan count for their page.

There are some other events as well like first million people will get free pair of shoes, click like to get a free Tee-Shirt e.t.c, all are fake. Only events created by an official Facebook page of a brand are genuine. So next time do not invite your friends or click “Attending” to useless events. This might harm your privacy or misuse your information in other ways.

The chief privacy adviser for the site, Mozelle Thompson, spoke with the Australian Federal Parliament’s cyber-safety organization and noted that the site deals with child users all the time,

There are people who lie. There are people under thirteen. Facebook removes twenty thousand people a day, people who are underage.

The company said,

At Facebook, we take safety very seriously and we were pleased to take part in a hearing in Australia to talk about our safety policies, practices and systems.As we explained in the hearing, these efforts include removing numerous accounts everyday for activities including spamming, posting inappropriate content, and violating age restrictions.

People are always worried about what they wrote on Facebook when they were angry or just kidding. Now we all know that Facebook keeps the user’s data somewhere with them in the data center. The problem here is that some people are afraid these things can come in their way of getting selected somewhere.

When people write rude comments or things that shouldnt be written and the recruiter reads them from Facebook that sounds scary! Well , the director also said that

Hard cases make bad law and that the majority of the people using Facebook want a guarantee that their data will stay on the service, rather run the risk of any of it being deleted.

He also mentioned that Facebook user’s data comes on Google’s search result. When asked why that couldn’t be removed , he said that users had wanted the service to do so in order to push other links they didn’t like about themselves down the search engine list.

A new reporting tool will let Facebook users, including teens and younger users, to privately report troubling content not just to the site itself but to parents, teachers and others in their support system.And an improved Safety Center, due out in the next few weeks, will give educational videos, articles and other content created by bullying experts to help adults address the problem.

In a video posted on the safety page, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama encouraged Facebook members to join in the effort to decrease bullying, both online and off. The new Safety Center will constantly be updated with new information and tools, accordingly.

I just got to know that a website called lovely-faces.com stole about a million photographs from Facebook. They categorized these people under some categories like nationality, gender, funny, smug, easy-going and climber. When you go to this website, you are shown a number of faces according to the above categories. When you click on any of them, you are led to a page that has expanded view of the image. You can either give comments on that image or go to their Facebook profile.

The creators of the online “dating agency” were identified at the website as artists Paolo Cirio and Alessandro Ludovic. When asked the reason of doing this, they said,

Our mission was to give all these virtual identities a new shared place to expose themselves freely, breaking Facebook’s constraints and boring social rules.

They also mentioned ,

So we established a new website giving them justice and granting them the possibility of soon being face to face with anybody who is attracted by their facial expression and related data.

Whatever reason they may give, this sure is against Facebook’s policy. I hope something is done against it. Can any one take away or copy the images and put it to their websites? What do you think about it ? Share your views with me.
