Sticky bar at the top (header):

Facebook’s header is still the same but Facebook made the new header bar sticky. That means header will stick to the top of page and will always show you whenever you use Facebook. Even when you scroll down to the bottom of a page it will remain at the top.

Purpose: The purpose of this change is to keep search bar always with you so that you can easily search for your friends without going to the top of page. Also it makes easier to access the homepage and profile page easily with just one click without scrolling.

Top and Recent Stories:

Unlike older buttons of Top post and Recent posts on Facebook, we have now selective Top stories where you can select yourself which post should be there as a top post and which shouldn’t. You can select a Top story by clicking on a Blue corner with every update. Facebook will show similar stories as top whenever you visit Facebook next time.

Purpose: Well there no such use of this feature and it makes Facebook’s homepage damn confusing as there are no separator between the top and recent posts. But according to Facebook this feature lets you to select your kind of top posts rather than showing every post with likes and comments. It might be a useful feature once we get familiar with the new interface.

New Lists:

This feature isn’t new and we told you about this few days back. This is a new automated way to add people into lists and read more updates from selected friends only.

Purpose: The major reason for launching this feature is to make users to use the old lists and to get updates from selective friends only. It also gives you an option of hiding your updates from some people in your friend’s list without unfriending them.

Bigger photos in News Feed:

A feature copied from Google+, Facebook also started showing bigger pictures in its news feed. Also if you upload a group of photos it will show once bigger picture and two smaller pics side by side.

Purpose: The purpose of this feature is to attract friends to the pictures you upload. Obviously a user easily gets attracted to a bigger picture rather than three smaller ones, so the chances of opening the picture increase. This is a good change in Facebook even if it’s a copied one.

Ticker:

A new updates section on the sidebar which shows updates from all your friends and their recent activity. This is more like a news channel’s Breaking News.

Purpose: Facebook Ticker is also launched to increase user interaction. It gets updated every second and user checks it time to time. Also watching an update is easy as you don’t need to visit a new page for every update, just roll over your mouse cursor to an update and it will show the whole post there. It’s not liked by Facebook users but I’m sure they will get habitual of it.

Birthday and Event view:

Facebook birthdays and events are shown in a new way now. The placement is still the same but when you click on a birthday or an event it will show it on your homepage itself without opening it in a new page.

Purpose: This is a good feature and user friendly too because by using this you can wish all your friends who are having birthday on that day on a same place without visiting everyone’s profile and wishing them separately. Also you can see current and upcoming events with a single click.

People don’t like most of the new features at the moment as they hate changes but they will start liking it. But it’s true that people visit Facebook because their friends are here and to stay connected with everyone. The fun part in Facebook is missing now. Let’s see whether people like the new timeline feature or not which is not yet available for everyone.

To add a contact form, the easiest way is to use a Facebook app. For that the best application available on Facebook is Contact Form. Go to the application page and click on “Go to App”. Now fill up the details to set up a contact form on your page. First of all select a page from the drop down list which shows all the pages you admin. Then enter some basic details and the details you need in the contact form. After that click on “Submit Form”.

With basic settings your contact form will look like the image shown below. Also a tab ‘contact’ will be added automatically to your page’s sidebar.

You can easily add someone to restricted list but by default this list is empty. To access your ‘Restricted’ list go to this page to see all of your lists and click ‘Restricted’. After that on the right sidebar you will see a space to enter your friends name whom you wish to add to this list. Select your friends from there. You can also click on ‘Manage List’ on the top right side of page and click on Add/Remove people.

Once added in your Restricted list, your friend won’t be able to see updates from your profile unless and until that update is public. It’s a good way to keep few people away from your private content without unfriending or blocking them. Facebook is changing lot’s of things in it’s design and the good thing is that most of the changes are good and important.

• Open a Facebook page that you admin. After that click on ‘like this’ link given with the number of fans of that page on the left.

• Now you will see the list of people who liked that page. On the top of list there will be a drop down list ‘People’. Click on that list and select Banned to see the list of banned people from that page.

• Click unban button given with every name to remove the ban from that user. You don’t need to save it, just click on close.

That’s it, the banned user will now get the access to your page again and he can post comments and like wall posts. Removing a ban is so easy but strategically placed by Facebook that’s why admins get confused. Drop a comment below if you got stuck somewhere.

So what are those other two passwords, apart from the one you know?

1. Your actual Facebook password with case reversed.
2. Your actual Facebook password with first letter capitalized, this is only available for mobile devices, though.

For example, if your password is “fAcEbOoK’, then “FaCeBoOk” (case reversed) serves as an alternative password.

This also means that if your password is completely in lower case, then you can login to your Facebook account even with Caps Lock on.

If you’re logging into Facebook from a mobile, then if the first letter gets capitalized by mistake, still you can login with no problem.

This is not a bug in Facebook, they intentionally designed in this way. This is not even a security loophole as it’s the same password, what has changed is just the capitalization, so it will take the same number of brute force attacks to crack it.

Hide updates from an app:

To hide updates from an application in your news feed, go to any update from that application and click on the cross mark given with that app on right side.

After that click on ‘Hide all by (app name)’. For example here I’m hiding all the updates in my news feed from ‘ZooZoo Characters’ application.

Unhide updates from an app:

If you want to switch back and receive all updates from an application again then you have to click on ‘Edit Options’ link on your Homepage. You can find this ‘Edit Options’ link on the bottom of your ‘News Feed’ or Homepage.

After that you will see a list of friends and applications that you have blocked on your homepage so that you can’t see updates from them. Now find the application name and click on the cross mark to start receiving updates again. Click Save and you’re all done.

Smart Lists: Automatically created lists that includes different group of people sorted according to Work, Family, School and City. This feature is just like Circles in Google+. Facebook will automatically add people to smart lists however you can anytime manually add or remove a friend from a particular list. Facebook will suggest you to add people to Smart Lists so that you can easily update these lists and make them more accurate.

Close Friends and Acquaintances Lists: Close friends list is a list where you can add your best friends or family members so that you can see updates only from them only. You will also receive a notification when someone from Close Friends list posts an update or a photo. Acquaintances list on the other hand is for those people who are not much close to you like old classmates or strangers you met online. Add them to this list to see only important updates from them hiding other daily status and photo updates.

Steps:

1. Open the Facebook page you admin and you want to change the landing tab.
2. Click on ‘Edit Page’ on the top right of the page.
3. Go to ‘Manage Permissions’ from your sidebar and select your new tab in ‘Default Landing Tab:’ from the drop down list.
   
4. After selecting the tab click ‘Save Changes’. You can also select Info, Photos, Discussions or any other tab as your default landing tab.

Using welcome tab as default:

If you are using a welcome page as default tab then it’s important to customize your welcome page first in prder to make it attractive. You can add a text note to of you can add an image to welcome your visitors. To add a welcome image read this post and add the following code in the box provided.

Downloading a video on Facebook:

1. To download a video on Facebook you need a Firefox browser as we’re going to use a Firefox extension. Download Mozilla Firefox here. If you’re already using it, skip this step.
2. Now download the Firefox extension NetVideoHunter. Click ‘Add to Firefox’. After that click allow which will start downloading the extension. Click Install once it’s downloaded and restart Firefox.
3. Once installed you will see a new icon in you Add-On bar at bottom. Now open Facebook and play the video you want to download. The moment you play that video, NetVideoHunter automatically detects it. Click on NetVideoHunter icon and Select that video from the list and click Download. The video will start downloading.
   

The video file will be downloaded in MPEG-4 format to the selected location. It is recommended to close your video when downloading starts so that it can download it at highest speed possible. You can also download Youtube, Metacafe, Dailymotion and other videos with the same extension.

Steps to add a new tab:

To add a new tab to a page, we will use an application Static HTML: iframe tabs. This application supports both HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and FBML (Facebook  Markup Language).

1. First of all go to application page using this link: http://apps.facebook.com/static_html_plus (or go to application’s homepage).
2. Now select the page where you want to add a tab from the drop down list of Pages you Admin. After that click ‘Add Static HTML: iframe tabs’.
   
3. That’s it, new tab is now added to your page. Now to customize your tab go to your page and click on the newly added tab from the sidebar (default name for the tab is ‘Welcome’). Add anything in the box ‘Enter your content here”. You can even add simple text to that box. After that click ‘Save and view tab’ to preview the tab.
4. To rename your tab from ‘Welcome’ to something else, go to ‘Edit Page’ and select Apps from your sidebar in the left. Go to Static HTML: iframe tabs and click ‘Edit Settings’ and rename the tab.
   

After that click ‘Save’ and ‘Okay’. This is the easiest and the best way to add a tab on your page. You can use any language i.e. HTML, FBML or CSS for customization. Stay connected as we’ll soon tell you how you can customize a Facebook page tab.
