I downloaded ‘Facicons’ which ended up being a spam. I got graphical smileys instead of plain one like these. 🙂 Everywhere it shows a sentence saying “I’ve added smileys to this status update. Wanna see them? Go to http://s.facicons.com/“, and asks you to download the application. Right now I can see this on so many friend’s status updates. It keeps circulating. 🙁
You can check it once you search for ‘ I have added smileys ‘. Just as we start thinking Facebook is changing the search scenario or getting better something like this happens.
I hope Facebook deals with such spam as soon as possible, till then I think I will have to remove this application. 🙁
Anyone knows any other good emoticons applications do let me know through your comments. 🙂
Editor’s Update: As mentioned in a comment below Facicons shows such links only when the person viewing these status updates does not have Facicons add-on or extension added on their browsers. This has been clarified in TOS and FAQs respectively. In my personal view this information should have been prominent on the Homepage itself which would have avoided such confusion.

I noticed you posted reagrding facicons on your blog.
It could be that a lack of understanding as to the nature of Facicons has prompted you to post this alert.
Facicons is an appliacation which enables users to post emoticons right in the their facebook status and comments – a feature which is not available via facebook (and only very partially available via the Facebook API).
In our FAQ page at http://www.facicons.com/faq.html we clearly state that:
“Since smileys are not available as part of the Facebook application for the comment or status fields, your friends must have Facicons installed in order to enjoy them. Therefore, when you send a smiley to a friend that doesn’t have Facicons , your friend will receive a link to Facicons with an explanation regarding what he needs to do in order to view the smileys you sent.”
This is the way other services such as Facemoods notify users of its services, because Facebook simply do not provide any way to build this feature within their system.
We have been as up-front and transparent regarding the way our application works in our FAQ and our TOS. We do not attempt to trick or mislead our users in any way.
You may have been alerted regarding Facicons because our application is being used by many people.
In light of this, calling Facicons spam is unfairly deamonising and harmful to us.
On this basis, I would appreciate a clarifying post regarding Facicons in order to prevent further damage to our name.

I was using Facicons ,, yesterday with no problem. until i sent 1 to my husband.. regarding a football match .. we both support opposite teams.. cus my team won then these facicons stopped working.. its saying they are being blocked !!! . Dont no wat i can do to retrive them..im 43. and dont even swear…..im using google chrome….hope this message makes sence asim disabled….
@Amanda If you are having trouble using facicons just disable it and uninstall it. Once you are done, refresh and install it again. If your account is disabled then read this http://fbknol.com/gamers-guide-to-avoid-facebook-ban/ that may help. Enjoy 😉

how can i remove the facicon aplication??
It is really simple to remove the Facicon application
If you are using Firefox then-just go to the tools->add-ons->disable application. 🙂
If Internet Explorer- Simply go to the start menu/control panel, click on add/remove program and remove Facicons.
If Google Chrome – Go to the customize menu, click Extensions and click Uninstall next to the Facicons item.

@Himadri, Don’t you think you are jumping to conclusions? I see nothing wrong with enhancing and sharing these Facicons emoicons. All you are doing is creating unwarranted fear and confusion. This is NOT a spam, virus embedded, or a bug of any kind download that I can see and I was using it and friends, until you cried, “Facicons ‘Fire’ in the Building!” Relax and enjoy the lighter side of modern techinology. I have been told that this facicons is spreading spam so why is it? I do not like being told by others that I am doing this. I do all the right thing’s and this is what I get. I would prefer a legit way of showing a smile & a thumbs up not some a spam spreader.

i dont know who uploaded this website facicon on my pc or something but its really getting annoying how these huge emotions are moving on my screen with that annoying sentence at the end “I have installed… ” I j ust want to remove it or uninstall it mayy youuuu help plzzz
