@ Deb
I go with your point, Gooogle avoid Linkfarm. Specially that's why you will not see blogroll in many blogs.

Creating a 3 way link structure is more effective way of creating backlinks and position in SERPS.

Sorry, but can't with the Post. In fact Harsh has posted the actual insight.

Page Rank is Calculated with a Formula used by Google where NoFollow OutBound Links doesn't affect your PageRank... I have read that sometime linking to sites with good content related to your Site May Help your Page get a Boost in SERP... Thus giving you an Opportunity to get Backlinks.

This tip is probably the most effective one on here.
Make at least three pages on your site and link them as follows:
Page 1 >>>>>> Page 2
Page 2 >>>>>> Page 3
And this is the kicker
Page 3 >>>>>> Page 1

Google will give points to page 2 from page 1, then to page 3 from page 2, and then - if you link it back to page 1 - it starts all over again. Just count how many points this will end up giving you.

Regards

Using nofollow and dofollow is a nice way to stop passing link juice to bad neighbourhood.. Though use it wisely. I will suggest always try to give credit to the the author of orginial post. See and example of Lifehacker they usually write an excerpt and give a link back to original author.

Though this is not the only matrix to optimize your page for better page rank. There are lots like:
# Incoming links (One way backlink is more powerful)
# On page optimization
# Internal linking
# Keyword placement with proper density
# Regularity of content update
# Age of domain name

All these also play a great role for your blog SEO and page rank.

Another important think which I like to mention for people who use affiliate link on their sidebar: ALways keep a no follow attribute to them as suggested by Google webmaster guideline.
