In the pic above you can see the difference between a 720 pixel and 960 pixel pictures. (For comparison only, not actual size).

The second change is that the photos now will be loaded faster with it’s new viewer. Also they changed the black background as we see in the current viewer. The new viewer will have a white background and the image will cover whole screen hiding the things in background.

Other options of Photo viewer are still the same. You still can’t right click on the photos and you have to click ‘download’ for saving a picture to your desktop. Please note that this feature is not available for everyone yet and Facebook will be rolling out this to everyone within next few days.

Get the Plugin

We will be using a plugin to implement the feature on the blog. Fotobook is a WordPress plugin that will link to your Facebook account and import all of your photo albums into a page on your WordPress installation. It makes use of Facebook’s API so importing your photos is a breeze.

Configure the plugin

Install the plugin from the admin section. and activate the plugin.
Once you activate the plugin, you can see something like in the following screenshot.

Click on the link and you’ll be taken to the Fotobook Settings page.

Step 1: Authenticate

This step asks you to login to your Facebook account. This is the step by which you allow the plugin to access your account and fetch the images and publish to your blog. Clicking on the link opens a pop-up window as below. Enter your login credentials and click the login button.

This will take you to the next step, that is grant access.

After this step, you may close the pop-up window and proceed to the step 2.
Step 2 : Get Permissions
This step asks you to grant access for your photos and videos associated with your Facebook account.
Once you allow the Fotobook plugin to do so, you can close the window and proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Apply Permissions
By clicking this, you apply all the steps done before and save the settings. Once you click Apply Permissions your Facebook account will be added and you can see something like below.

Import Photos to blog

This will take you to the next step which is shown below.

Clicking on Get Albums will fetch from your Facebook account and list all the albums related to your account. By this time, the plugin have created the exact replica of albums on your Facebook account. You can even hide the albums if you don’t want to show that specific album by clicking the hide link.

That’s it, you are done. You can now access the albums at http://yourblogdomain/photos
The plugin also allows you to display photos in 3 styles.

1. Color box.
2. Embedded.
3. Lightbox.

Select the style and you are all set. Do drop in your comments.

How to use it?

• Go to PhotoZoom add-on page.
• Click on Add to Firefox.
• Click on Install when it asks you.
• Restart your browser.

Once installed you will see the difference in viewing the images. They will appear bigger when you take your mouse over, as in the image below.

How to remove it?

Suppose you are bored with this, then just follow simple steps and this Add on will be removed from your browser.

• Go to Tools.
• Click on Add-on.
• Uninstall/Disable PhotoZoom 1.8.
• Restart your browser.

This is a very simple Add on that I like. It’s not that you need to have this Add on necessarily but if you are a Facebook addict like me you sure will enjoy having it on your browser. If you know of any other Add on for photographs or video do share it with me through your comments.

The most trending privacy feature now days is to hide your profile pictures from unknown people or even from your friends. But let me clear one thing here is that you can only lock the profile picture album, your current profile will still be shown to everyone. To hide your profile pictures, simply follow the following procedure:

1. Login to your facebook account and go to Account >> Privacy Settings. (see top right side of your profile). You can also simply click here to go to privacy settings.
2. Now click on customize settings link on that page.
3. Click on Edit album privacy to view the privacy level for all your albums. (link: http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=photos ).
4. Now the first album will be your ‘Profile Pictures’. For that album select “Custom” option from the drop down list with the album.
   
5. Now you will see a pop-up on screen, select “Only Me” option from the drop down list for “Make it visible to” option.

That’s it, you’re all done now as there’s no need to save these changes. Go back to your homepage and your profile pictures album will now be locked for everyone even if the person is in your friend’s list. You can also lock this album for few people or none of them. Select the desired option from the same drop down list after you saw the pop-up.

Sharing images is very vital for any social network and sharing them easily across the board is more important. We already use Twitter and Facebook without visiting their websites but actually doing so through their APIs on various websites. This is pretty much the same with photos which also you do not want to really share from just one platform.

Orkut also now allows sharing images through Scraps. These new and interesting features are being shown off by Orkut with a video on its blog.

The video also explains how you can not just upload albums but also share them with selected friends and also with email address of people without an Orkut account.

This new feature will allow you to upload a photo of 720 pixels which is 20 percent larger than the previous upload option. Obviously this will make Facebook more interesting cuz it’s still the largest photo sharing website worldwide. This application works on the basis of previously tagged photos by you and detects the same face for new tags. This application basically detects all the faces in the selected album and categorizes it into three.

The first one is that in which it detects the name of the face from previously tagged photo. Second one is that in which an album is having more than one pic with the same face but the name is not defined. The third one is no name single face category which is known as ungrouped.

1. Details gathered after analysis.
2. Accurately detected faces but without name.
3. Though this application is accurate but it isn’t 100% . See the two faces are similar but not same.
4. Ungrouped faces, click on the small button below every pic to use a name for them.

To use this uploader you have to install a Facebook plug-in. Once you have installed this plug-in you will be able to upload your photos with the new uploader which users html an css but with a very cool way

The best thing in this uploader is that you can continue with your work on Facebook, doesn’t matter what you are doing you can do it simultaneously while uploading photos.
