@Aditya: imagine u have a corporation like Apple…wouldn’t u like to give a try to something *new*? think about that…

And, “Most times when companies move from software makers to hardware, they have usually failed as a result of lack of clear focus.”…u referring this statement to Apple? Are they moving from making softwares to hardwares? lol..they already make both hardwares and softwares, they aren’t *moving to hardware from software*…
And also, you can’t generalize things…

“They were successful with iPod but as I said there was a market for it.”…not just iPod, iPhone and iMac too, iMac gets the most share than any other system, in designing fields…

There isn’t a need of asking “Why Apple?”….Why not Apple????

@Hack_minded: The main question is ‘Why Apple?’ Not why a new mouse. It has been seen through analysis of tech companies. Most times when companies move from software makers to hardware, they have usually failed as a result of lack of clear focus. They were successful with iPod but as I said there was a market for it. I think Apple should stick to making their Mac better and hopefully cheaper.

That’s not re-inveting, its called advancement. Do you mean to say that we should stop innovations? and stick with whats there?

If a thing is there, you can always look for adding more functionality to it and making it better than what it is right now…

I’m not a lover of Apple products, I agree they are unjust at some points, but you can’t blame on everything they do!

@Aditya: Mouse has been in the scene since 1981 when Xerox invented it. There have been improvements in the design/functionality over these years so I think they did a good job by making something new. Everything is evolving and changing as per time and as far as nature is concerned, nothing is permanent except change.

I personally dont prefer apple products at all except iPod. I guess as far as MACs are concerned ubuntu is a better option.

If Microsoft had acted earlier the title of the post would be “Why is Microsoft trying to re-invent the mouse?” Microsoft is working on multi-touch mouse since 2-3 years. Apple made a quick(and good) move and now holds the title to “Worlds first multi-touch mouse”. Since it is an Apple product, hardly anybody will question its use and make a fuzz about it.
