I need to change few things on my WordPress site..for which i thought installing WP locally would be a good option…I installed WP and LAMP (I am on Ubuntu desktop 12.04)…also got into the dashboard (localhost/myblog.com)…

Now i want to have everything as it is on the live site…is there any way to clone the live site to my localhost…edit as required and push it back to live servers..without loosing any data or harming the live site ofcourse …

    Sorry for late reply.

Old way is to rsync content to remote-server and for mysql do backup/restore.

We are exploring this – https://github.com/markjaquith/WP-Stack which will be much better (once start working)
