Google displays rich snippets to display links from your website or blog on their search results. What is shown in these search results actually ends up deciding if someone will click on that link.
This is why entering proper meta title and meta description is a good idea. Google has a nice online tool that allows you to check how the URL you enter is displayed in search results.
Visit Google’s Rich Snippets Testing Tool and enter the URL you want to check.
Google will display how the title will be shown along with meta description. For example in the above image the snippet testing tool lets us know that the author profile page does not have a rel=me link to Google Profile.
It also has good examples which could be helpful.
Try out the online tool and drop in your comments.

Thank you. It is very helpful.
I did not know of this tool. Many of Google’s useful tools are not readily prominent, and only when you do some deep research you come across them. Such a pity! I guess that’s why there are bloggers out there to help us out. Cheers.
Yes, a lot of tools from Google are not universally known but they seem to be quite awesome.
Thats a very interesting tool, have you been able to improve your SERP ranking with the help of this tool?
I have not used this tool to test SERP ranking changes. Mainly it is a good idea to check for missing ingredients especially y based on the type of traffic you are targeting.
