Buddypress (BP) a buzz in the world of bloggers. It provides an open platform for the wordpress users to share their views and ideas. In other terms it will let you create a social community around your WordPress blog.  It has predefined rich set of components that is enough for a social-networking platform. These custom component can be anything that can provide a rich set of features that is a value added advantage to the Buddypress.

Let me try to make the picture more clear to you. Let me have pleasure to introduce BUDDYPRESS. Buddypress is a sort of plugin that can be activated as we do to other plugins but it takes wordpress blog to a next level. It enriches the wordpress blog by its features like activity, groups, friends, forums, etc .etc. But the more you give to users the more they want. This thirst let to the formation of a group of developers call Buddypress developers.

Buddypress custom component developers instincts their ideas with their own custom component and the wordpress users roam freely through the website with ease.

Till now development of custom component for buddypress is reached its new heights. Every now n then developers release their own custom component that nicely integrates with the buddypress core component. Buddypress has a huge base of approximately 16000 members.

Custom components like  Buddypress Media Component, Bp-links are few to name them. These are wonderful plugins that nicely integrate with the BP. To start with you can refer for BP skeleton component.

To end with I would like to say that the real power of buddypress comes with its components  more or less custom components plays a vital role in this battlefield of open source community..

Thumbs up for Buddypress!!

I am running an Education WordPress Website with heavy traffic. And now i want to add a social feature in it.
What would you like to suggest ? Drupal with Social Modules or Buddypress ?

I decided to start this social section in a sub-domain like connect.site.com.

Waiting for your views.

Thumbs up buddy.. [press] 🙂 !!!. First of all thanks for your comment. Really I would say that every website needs a social networking connection more or less whatever. For your WordPress website I prefer say that Buddypress will be best option since WP supports BP to its best. Integrating these two is much easier with a single click. The Buddypress world has much more to explore with its flexible environment.. Check out this link and surely you will go for BP 🙂 since here you will find that how nicely Buddypress integrates with WP.. Please let me know you choice.. Thanks

@Ashish “Every website needs a social networking connection more or less whatever
I personally feel that this is not true. In WordPress, focus is on content and blogging and in case of Buddypress, focus is more on users. Rather Focusing Users is crux of Social Network and this is well done in Buddypress using activity streaming and other features… 8)

Buddypress is basically for niche Social community network over WordPress. You can check sites using Buddypress here. Especially Solo Practice University which resembles your requirements. I recommend Buddypress for your website for two reasons.
1. Buddypress is supported by strong and effective community of developers.
2. You are already familiar with WordPress.
We (rtCampers), also have developed an open source Media component for Buddypress and feel very proud and lucky to be a part of such dynamic and fast growing community. 🙂
