Adam Tablet PC from India

Since the weekend I have come across a couple of articles one online and the other in print about the new Tablet PC called Adam. It has been already labeled as the i-Pad killer. Making such predictions on a device being able to take on another and trounce it is very difficult. But comparison with the iPad will be inevitable. It will be presented to the world at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Adam has been developed in India in Hyderabad by Notion Ink. India has had a lot of success regarding teh software industry but Adam just might be the first big hardware product to come out of India.

Features

  • The screen will be PixelQi Screen (10 inch) and will actually consumer about a tenth of the power a Macbook’s screen does. This will also mean 10 hours of HD video being played without battery running out.
  • It will have a Camera (something iPad does not) and will support connectivity with Wi-fi, 3G and bluetooth. It will probably not have a 3G version in India; as the infrastructure for 3G currently is not too enthusiastic for Adam.
  • The best part is that Adam will come with a OS which is Chromium, Android and Ubuntu. This means open source and the source code will be made available for Adam for allowing a free hand to developers to make their own customizations to the OS.
  • The browsers will be Firefox and Chrome and it will have support for Flash and Multitasking.
  • The price range will be somewhere between $300 to $800. I guess Adam Tablet will be slightly cheaper than the iPad.

There are numerous features which Adam has and iPad does not. But it would be unfair as  far as comparisons go as more features being included does not mean it is a better product. We can only wait and see what the Adam will turn out to be.
Meanwhile do watch a video presentation by Notion Ink.

James Hurgen May 1, 2010

I found the website adamtabletpc.com and it looks like a retailer for the US. Not sure. They have a lot of info on there now though. If I have to get one from India, so be it!

kunwar May 19, 2010

can we design the application of adam…………

Aditya Kane May 19, 2010

I guess considering it will run on Open Source OS they might allow developers to design applications on Adam.

virpal July 18, 2010

well done.
see if you can put solar cells on the parameter to continuously charge the batteries, no matter how slow/little the charge is.
does it have a gps receiver?

Aditya Kane July 20, 2010

Interesting way to get some power from solar cells but would be interesting to see how hardware would behave with long periods in the sun. ๐Ÿ™‚ We are an independent tech blog which has covered the Adam tablet PC.

marvin nubwaxer July 24, 2010

India just announced the $35 tablet. call them mobile internet devices, tablets or whatever, soon they will be so cheap that if there was competition among internet providers i think they might give them away as incentive to sign you up for a year’s worth of their service.

Dipjyoti kumar July 25, 2010

Will it be able to run WinXP??

Aditya Kane July 25, 2010

I do not think it will be able to run WinXp considering they are looking at Android as an OS.

rajarshi August 8, 2010

will the Adam be manufactured in India?

Aditya Kane August 8, 2010

As far as I know I think it will be manufactured in India if not assembled in India atleast.

rajarshi August 8, 2010

Do mean that that the components might be manufactured in India and then assembled somewhere else ??

Aditya Kane August 8, 2010

No idea about how they are going to set up their supply chain. Will research a bit more on it and let you know. ๐Ÿ™‚

rajarshi August 8, 2010

I am seriously hoping that the Adam is manufactured in India, starting from the smallest components to the final assembly.

Such an wonderful Indian innovation won’t do India much good if Notion Ink decides to sub-contract the manufacturing to China or Taiwan, like the Indian mobile handset companies which sell made-in-China handsets in India.

rajarshi August 29, 2010

Adam will be manufactured in Taiwan !!!!!!!!!!!!!

j January 27, 2011

I agree with you 100%. I am tired of buying electronics made in china!!!!

Nothing to say, but you guys are mad. Absolutely crazy. Comparing Apple iPad with something which doesn’t even constitute what we call a brand worldwide is nothing but insane; completely crazy. Anyways, best of luck to Adam. Even they had to steal Apple’s A. hahahahaha))))))

Aditya Kane January 7, 2011

There is no comparision when it comes to brand value but when it comes to the product itself, with the buzz iPad has, any new tablet will be compared with the iPad.

Rohith March 22, 2011

bharat January 31, 2011

Where is this stupid thing that is being hyped for two years

bharat January 31, 2011

This idiotic site http://www.notionink.in/ ask us to check for order status. One cannot place any order. Very sad way this product is being marketed by some novice. I think this is being manufactured in Vietnam or so so that one piece is made in one year.

seshuraju March 16, 2011

how to bye????????????? where to bye??????????????????? plz tellllllllllllllmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee any 1

Maharajdeep March 21, 2011

i want a windows xp touch screen tab pc mrp. Rs.12,000/-is it available

rajan March 21, 2011

sorry to comment but all thosse who ordered in PO@ and PO! are frustrated. i have ordered on 10th feb after receiving an invitation mail from them. for last month we all have been receiving weird mails about status of shipment. you can view the smoke, fire and fumes on forum like notion adicts.
on one side we are proud of this being an indian product by young enterprenuers and i have been tracking the adam since rohan said it openly for the first time. infact on this blog i am the one in first five to ask and enquire.
now left with nothing but patiently waiting for the delivery. however once recieved(?) i would certainly comment.

Aditya Kane March 21, 2011

Thanks Rajan, surely do comment and tell us about it. ๐Ÿ™‚
