Will Cartoon Pictures on Facebook Profile stop Child Abuse!

If I ask you what is the trending topic on Facebook and twitter, without a pause you will tell me. It is how Cartoon characters as profile pictures are going viral on Facebook ! It is being done to raise a voice against child abuse and to remember those lovely days when we were a kid and loved our cartoons. 🙂

This is gaining a lot of popularity on Twitter. There are people who are for and against the topic.

Some examples:

@rayjohnz says

” RT if you have changed your default picture into a cartoon character on Facebook as a support against child abuse. “

@JWSeveredTWWK says

“I care so much about fighting child abuse that I’m going to go the extra mile and make several new Facebook accounts with cartoon defaults.”

These are some of the people who are ready to do anything and everything to raise an awareness. From retweeting about it to making new accounts, or to share this information as much as possible, every concerned person is doing what he can.

But at the same time there are people who are getting irritated with the profile updates and cartoon images suddenly making Facebook Network go Cartoon Network !

@AndreaCYeung says that

“#somewheretonight there’s a beaten child wondering how a cartoon display picture on Facebook will stop his scars.”

Even I wrote about the cartoon characters replacing original image on Facebook, but I did this to remember my lovely childhood days. Yes, these things will increase some awareness towards people but that’s it. Will it do something really against those people who continue to abuse children? Will they stop and think about it just by seeing Facebook profiles ? I guess it needs more of self-awareness and a much bigger campaign than a Facebook event. If at least one adult thinks about it and realizes what he is doing wrong, then this is a great success!

This won’t do a damn thing. And it won’t change even one person’s mind.

Yes lkjsdaf that’s what i am saying just by changing a photo will not change anything!

just saying, if you watch the news, it has turned out that the whole ordeal is fake. It had nothing to do with any organization and it was an attempt from a group of pedafiles to make it the picture so they would know who the kids are and also so you couldn’t see who they were, so when friend requesting kids would just assume it was another friend who changed their picture. Please pass this news on so no one gets hurt soon.

@Jay I think the attempt was nice if it was for child abuse awareness! People that is especially children should be aware of this and know how to react at such situations!

It’s essentially no different than a “march” or a tv commercial where an actor speaks against abuse, hence the term “Awareness Campaign”. Because, believe me, its astounding how many people still think “Not in my neighborhood” or some similar naive equivalent. If it makes one person look at a bruised child differently and make a call, it was worth my 20 seconds to change my picture and status.

I totally agree with you Jennifer…

Yes ! that’s right !! we should move not just by changing our profile pics. we should think of a better idea.. Just like Jennifer has said !

Himadri Dimri December 8, 2010

Yes danielle, very true!

I think even though it might of been set up to make it easier for pedophiles to hurt children, It does raise awareness about the child abuse. The AndreaCYeung comment was uncalled for. It’s raising awareness for that children who are beaten and asking us to reach out and help stop this not just look at the cartoon picture. I think it might be better if it were more realistic, like a picture of an actual abused child, or a black background with something like “stop the abuse” (this can be used for varies abuse causes also).

Yeah Mary you are right. I hope people read this and think about it.
