[Video] WordPress EasterEgg on Post Revision Feature

Our very own rtCamper, Pragati Sureka, discovered a wordpress easter-egg while working on a project!

EasterEggs are harmless code snippets which gets activated on some particular (and rare) event. They are not like backdoors which are often left in code to gain unauthorized access at later stage.

Post revision is a feature in WordPress which saves the post when you edit it every-time. This feature is very useful, as you can always restore your the post to its old version. This feature can also be used to compare two revision of posts and see the differences between them.

This WordPress Easter-eggs get activated, when you try to compare same post-revisions. See this video to understand how you can see this WordPress easter egg:

The codes responsible for this easter-egg can be found here:

http://core.svn.wordpress.org/trunk/wp-admin/js/revisions-js.php

How to see it live yourself!

  1. Open any of your post which has revisions.
  2. Try to compare a post-revision with itself and you will be amazed to see this Easter-egg.

This easter egg worked on both WordPress Mu and Stand alone wordpress installation. I’m sure did enjoy the matrix effect in this and surely even you will love it.

Do let us know what do you think about this little WordPress easter egg? If you like this, don’t forget to share it with your twitter and Facebook friends.
