Yep… That style caching is used in “web preview” mode.
It makes offline blogging more easy and interesting.

Question – I’ve not seen any specific instructions on how to add Google Maps, or to swap out Live Maps. Any ideas?

I guess you are using old version of Live Writer.
Have you tried latest version?
is dere compressed version of dot net because my net connection is slow and its taking huge time to download.
